Week 35 Reviews: Sideswiped, The Drafter

From Goodreads:
Don't miss this thrilling first look into the elite world of Peri Reed, government agency operative extraordinaire, and catch more of her character in The Drafter, the first book in the all-new suspense trilogy from #1 New York Times bestselling author Kim Harrison, out September 1.

Every hero, even the accidental ones, have a beginning.

Silas's radical theory that drafters are not replaying time as much as they are temporarily sliding into an alternate universe has never been well-received, but frankly, the darling of Opti's research has enough clout not to care, until a professor with a grudge tries to put a permanent end to it. Love can't alter time, and sometimes, even being able to rub out a single mistake isn't enough…

From Goodreads:
Detroit 2030. Double-crossed by the person she loved and betrayed by the covert government organization that trained her to use her body as a weapon, Peri Reed is a renegade on the run.

Don't forgive and never forget has always been Peri's creed. But her day job makes it difficult: she is a drafter, possessed of a rare, invaluable skill for altering time, yet destined to forget both the history she changed and the history she rewrote.

When Peri discovers her name on a list of corrupt operatives, she realizes that her own life has been manipulated by the agency. She joins forces with a mysterious rogue soldier in a deadly race to piece together the truth about her final task, unable to trust even herself.

My Review:
Reading these books, was just, oh, incredible! I was so lucky to have received an ARC of The Drafter, though it was pretty hard to wait until I did to read it-almost a month, so that this review would post in the preferred time span. But it was totally worth the wait!

Sideswiped gave us a look at this world, and from Silas' prospective, and it was the story of how the characters got to the place that they did that they didn't want to be part of Opti. It was pretty bittersweet, because there was happiness, and then it ended on such a sad note!

The Drafter was everything I could hope for from a Kim Harrison book, and more! Different, because it's a futuristic sci-fi vs. the genre of The Hollows series, but that's more just building on the good bones of a house, the bones are the same, it's the finishing touches that are different!

With the forgetting the two time lines, well, it lead to many changes. Because this is a mystery/thriller, there were so many twists and turns-and some of them were related to memory. Because Opti is corrupt, and because of all this, they forced her into that situation, too!

We knew more of what was going on then Peri, both because of what happened to her, and because we got some of Silas' POV. And what with reading Sideswiped, and how it ended, well, I had a suspicion that turned out to be true!

Loved that ending! It was hard, and things were left almost unresolved, if with the good guys out in front, but it's the first book in a series (I think maybe a trilogy, maybe) so there's plenty of time for that to happen, and more adventures to happen in the meantime!

So incredible to read these, and I now, just really, really, really need more!
